Abstract

ABSTRACT The excellent properties of titanium pellet Z in the blast furnace hearth protection were determined by studying the composition, metallurgical properties and a over four years period of application practice of titanium-containing pellets(C&Z) and ores (J, G&D) in a domestic blast furnace. The reduction and softening-melting properties of titanium pellet Z were better than those of titanium lump ore G, D and J, and titanium pellet C. Under the condition of a titanium load of 7–8 kg TiO2/tHM, the fuel rate, pressure drop and slag ratio of the blast furnace using titanium pellet Z were better than that for the titanium-bearing resources. Using pellet Z had an obvious effect on the decrease of the hearth temperature and sustained stability. It was concluded that pellet Z was an excellent titanium-bearing burden for both laboratory research and industrial trial.
