Abstract

Silver nanoparticles-embedded three-dimensional (3D) dielectric microstructures are demonstrated with a single-beam holographic technique. By using a top-cut triangular prism to split an incident plane wave into four umbrellalike beams and then to automatically combine the four beams in Ag+-doped dielectric matrices, a 3D microstructure with periodically embedded Ag nanoparticles is encoded. Our method can be used to create any 3D microstructures in various materials and hence provide a robust way for photonic crystal fabrications, label-free 3D biological imaging, and optical integration etc.
