Abstract

Abstract The reaction of 1-(benzotriazole-1-carbonylmethyl)-4-(α-naphthyl)-3-thiosemicarbazide (BNTS) with metal chlorides gave three types of complexes having the composition (1) MLCl · H2O, (2) MLCl, (3) M2LCl2(OH)2 [L=BNTS, M=Cu (II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II)]. Elemental analyses, IR spectral and TGA studies have been used to elucidate their structures. The IR spectral data show that heterocyclic thiosemicarbazides behave as neutral or mononegative ligands and coordinate in a bidentate, tridentate or tetradentate manner.
