Abstract

Abstract The reaction of 1-(benzotriazole-1-carbonylmethyl)-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarba-zide (BPTS) with metal chlorides give three types of complexes having the compositions (1) [MLH2]Cl2, (2) [ML]H2O, (3) M(LH)2 [LH2 = BPTS, M = Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cd(II)]. Elemental analyses, IR spectral and TGA studies have been used to elucidate their stucture. The IR spectral data show that the heterocyclic thiosemicarbazide behaves as neutral, mononegative or binegative ligand and coordinates in a bidentate, tridentate or bridging tetradentate manner.
