Abstract
We report a case of metastasis to the parotid gland of a 72-year-old male patient who had had a nephrectomy 8 years ago for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC). The patient presented with a nodular mass in the left parotid gland. Doppler imaging examination revealed an increased volume containing a hypoechoic nodule with lobulated contours, heterogeneous texture, measuring 2.0 cm. Fine needle aspiration cytology was performed and the result was compatible with pleomorphic adenoma. The patient was referred to Head and Neck Surgery and an excisional biopsy was performed. Histopathologic examination revealed a proliferation of epithelial cells organized in lobules, presenting clear cytoplasm, with a distinct cellular outline and hyperchromatic nuclei. Intervening stroma was inconspicuous and highly vascularized. Immunohistochemistry was positive for AE1/AE3, S-100, and CD10 and negative for CK7 and CK8. A diagnosis of metastatic CCRCC was made. The patient was referred for cancer treatment.
