Abstract

Background and aims. Excessive weight gain, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and impaired glucose tolerance occur early and can be frequently observed in liver transplanted (OLT) patients. The origin of these alterations, all related to insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome is under debate. Both immunosuppression and a metabolic disorder that produces previous non-alcoholic-steatohepatitis, putative cause of cryptogenic cirrhosis are possibly involved. However, so far, no definite data on markers of metabolic syndrome after OLT have been reported.
