Abstract

The human nervous system matures over a protracted developmental time frame relative to other species.What sets the pace of maturation has remained a mystery. In a recent publication in Science, Iwata etal. unearth critical contributions of mitochondrial metabolism in setting the pace of species-specific corticogenesis.
