Abstract

Emerging evidence suggests that metabolic-epigenetic interactions play an important role in the regulation of complex behaviors. Neuronal histone acetylation, for example, relies on acetyl-CoA produced from acetate by chromatin-bound acetyl-CoA synthetase 2 (ACSS2). Alcohol metabolism is a major source of acetate. Brain histone acetylation may thus be under the influence of alcohol.
