Abstract

Addition of imidazole (10 mg/ml) to segments of rat epididymal fat reduced the lipolytic response to epinephrine and theophylline and abolished lipolysis in response to cyclic 3',5'-adenosine monophosphate. Basal lipolysis was undiminished. Imidazole also prevented the increase in glucose oxidation caused by epinephrine, but had little effect on glucose oxidation caused by insulin. Imidazole inhibited the incorporation of glucose carbons into long-chain fatty acids and glyceride-glycerol. The data are thought to support the suggestion that imidazole stimulates the activity of phosphodiesterase.
