Abstract

As you now see, this journal has undergone several changes. First of all, the name has been changed from ‘‘Sexual Plant Reproduction’’ to ‘‘Plant Reproduction.’’ This by no means suggests that the journal, or the International Association of Sexual Plant Reproduction Research (IASPRR), is no longer interested in publishing research describing advances in the process of sexual plant reproduction. Rather, as there have recently been many important developments and breakthroughs in the broader field of plant reproduction, the journal editors, the IASPRR and the publisher felt that the time had come to widen the scope of the journal. In the next issue of plant reproduction, I will outline the change in scope, and the impact this is expected to have. A second important change to the journal is that the board of Editors has been expanded. We are excited that several excellent scientists have committed to serving ‘‘Plant Reproduction’’ in attracting, selecting and publishing important papers in their fields of investigation. I would like to take the opportunity to welcome the new Editors Prof. Claudia Kohler (Uppsala, Sweden), Prof. Lars Ostergaard (Norwich, United Kingdom), Dr. Raphael Mercier (Versailles, France), Dr. Loic Lepiniec (Versailles, France) and Prof. Richard Immink (Wageningen, The Netherlands). I am confident that their activities will help us to cover a broader field and maintain the quality of the journal. Finally, after more than 10 years of service, Prof. Scott Russell has stepped down as Editor-in-Chief of ‘‘Sexual Plant Reproduction.’’ On behalf of the team of Editors, the publisher and the community of plant reproduction researchers, I would like to thank him for his devoted service, which was critical to consolidating the journal in the face of many changes in the publishing landscape. At the same time, I have gladly accepted the honor to serve as the new Editor-in-Chief of ‘‘Plant Reproduction’’ as of January 1, 2013. In the next issue, I will introduce myself and outline my ambitions for the journal. I am looking forward to publishing exciting science advances in the important and dynamic field of plant reproduction, starting with the papers in this first issue of ‘‘Plant Reproduction.’’
