Abstract

Membership renewals for 2018 are well underway, and I hope you have renewed yours as well as invited others in your organizations to join. Dues have not increased, and you will continue to receive the same great services from ASLO. Don't forget to consider contributing to one of the many funds that allow ASLO to support so many great student and early career activities. It's been an amazing year! ASLO made the transition (pretty seamlessly) to a new software package that combines all ASLO content and services into one site. This means your journal content, membership information, conference registration, and details all will be accessed through one ASLO portal (www.aslo.org). The software also has many additional benefits to keep us all under one roof and help us run ASLO more efficiently. Fall is also the time for many of the ASLO nominations that allow you, our members, to become involved. Nominations for ASLO awards, board member and officer positions, and fellows are taking place. If you would like to become involved or nominate someone, visit the website for more details. This is also the 101st anniversary of the U.S. National Parks, and we hope you have enjoyed visiting them over the summer. There are over 400 parks. Go to: nationparks.org/explore-parks or findyourpark.com to choose your next adventure. The National Science Foundation has just concluded the nomination process for their awards. We hope to see some ASLO members on the recipient list! And, of course, ASLO continues to bring members together to collaborate, present science, and just to get together formally or informally at our meetings. This year, ASLO will meet with AGU and TOS at the Ocean Sciences Meeting in Portland, Oregon, over the dates of February 11–16, and then in Victoria, B.C., Canada, for the 2018 Summer Meeting, June 10–15. Besides the great science presented, both meetings will feature many special events, outreach programs, and visual art to show the beauty of science. Please continue your support of ASLO and become an active member. Hope to see you at one of the meetings in 2018. Helen Schneider Lemay ASLO Business Manager, The Schneider Group, Inc. business@aslo.org
