Abstract

A point-based modeling scheme for the meso-structure of the 3D orthogonal woven composite is developed. Different from the traditional mesh-based modeling scheme, more complicated and more realistic profiles for the yarns can be easily built, and the material points of the matrix can be easily inserted to the reinforced structure in a uniform way. The deformation and responses of meso-structure under the loading of uniform tension and the high-velocity impacts are successfully simulated with the point-based model and the meshfree material point method. The simulation results agree well with the experimental results.
