Abstract
An optical fiber amplifier based on a tapered fiber coated with PbS quantum dots (QDs) loaded into mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) is proposed. The fabricated amplifier shows enhanced gain due to loading QDs into MSNs, which significantly increases the areal density of QDs at the tapered region of the optical fiber. A maximum signal on/off gain of 15.5 dB at 1550 nm was achieved.
