Abstract

The mercury content of two, approximately 260 million year old Kansas limestones of the Permian System, Burr and Cottonwood, has been determined by flameless atomic absorption. The mercury contents varied from 0.036 ppnm in the upper part of the Burr bed to 1.22 ppm in a lower part of the Cottonwood bed. On the average, the Cottonwood Limestone had about twice the mercury content of the Burr Limestone. Trans. Kans. Acad. Sci., 76 (1), 1973.
