Abstract

Psychiatric concepts of normality are reviewed with an emphasis on current trends. Offer and Sabshin's (1991) perspectives on normality are introduced. Recent developments in research on normality are discussed. A review of current psychiatry and psychology textbooks is presented in order to assess whether normatological concepts are being integrated into the training of new mental health professionals. The results of a survey of clinical psychology doctoral students are discussed with regard to future directions of normality and mental health.
