Abstract

ABSTRACT The use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology has the ability to create a more engaging environment by adding virtual objects to the real world. It has the potential to enhance the value of the preschool teaching and learning process, emphasizing the concept of learning through play. However, there still exists a dull and less captivating learning atmosphere in preschool science education. Therefore, this study aims to develop and implement teaching materials (MAS Module) using an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning approach to improve the knowledge and interest of preschool children in the subject of science. The study employs a mixed-methods design involving 12 six-year-old preschool children and a science teacher from a preschool in the Port Dickson District, Negeri Sembilan. The research tools include observation checklists, interviews, tests from activity books, cognitive tests, and the obtained data were analyzed in terms of frequency and percentage. The findings of the study indicate an improvement in the level of knowledge and interest among the children after the use of the MAS Module. This study demonstrates that AR technology can capture the interest of children in the science subject, consequently enhancing scientific knowledge among preschool children. Therefore, it is recommended that training in the use of AR for instructional material preparation be provided to preschool teachers to assist in the teaching and learning processes of preschool science.
