![][1] Figure. Melvin Greer, MD, FAAN Dr. Melvin Greer expressed his life's professional goals by his actions: to make people's lives better by reducing disease, disability, and death. On May 19, 2010, Mel Greer died, after a life full of achievements. While we celebrate his wonderful life, we also grieve. Born in 1929 in New York City, he attended Brooklyn public schools and attended New York University (NYU), where he was a Shakespearean scholar, majoring in English (Phi Beta Kappa), receiving a BA magna cum laude in 1950. He received his MD in 1954 from NYU (Alpha Omega Alpha). After a pediatric residency at Bellevue (NYU) and 2 years with the US Navy as Guam's pediatrician, he returned to a neurology residency at Columbia University.
