Abstract A description is provided for Meliola niessleana . Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. DISEASE: Meliola niessleana occurs on living leaves of Vaccinium and other genera of the Ericaceae , but does not produce symptoms of any disease. HOSTS: Erica carnea, Gaultheria cumingiana, G. shallon, Rhododendron chamaecistus, Vaccinium corymbosum, V. cubense, V. myrtillus, V. ramonii, V. virgatum, V. vitis-idaea . GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Austria, Canada (Hughes, 1981), Cuba, Dominican Republic, Formosa, Germany, USA. TRANSMISSION: By air-borne ascospores.
