Abstract

A period of Una's life was guided by fear, which triggered a painful process of identity deconstruction. In view of this, the main objective is to verify if fear is a constituent factor of the identity of the protagonist of the autobiographical comic Becoming Unbecoming (Una, 2018), since this emotion is evoked by the memories of a victim of sexual abuse during childhood and adolescence. In this way, a bibliographical survey was carried out, which allowed the construction of the theoretical foundation related to fear (Bauman, 2008; Tuan, 2005), identity (Woodward, 2012) and the language of comics (Ramos, 2010), when perceiving the relevance of fear and its verbal-visual metaphorization in Una's identity process. Through the interpretive analysis, fear was confirmed as a substantial factor in the constitution of identity and its re-signification, from the moment the protagonist decides to end the silence and intends to be a voice for other victims of sexual violence.
