Abstract
Abstract Liamocins are antimicrobial compounds with specificity for Streptococcus spp., produced by certain strains of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans. Recent studies have identified strains and culture medium for liamocin production. However, this culture medium has not previously been optimized for liamocin production. In this study, we employ one-factor-at-a-time and statistical methods to develop an optimized medium for liamocin production. Liamocin yields from optimized medium were nearly double those from standard medium, up to 22 g liamocin/L. This represents the highest yields of liamocin reported to date. Furthermore, MALDI-TOF analyses show that liamocins produced from optimized medium are similar to those produced from standard medium.
