Abstract
Despite the presence of the blood-ocular barrier, the retina is susceptible to the toxic effects of systemic drugs due to dysfunction and retinal degeneration. This toxicity due to drugs can be categorized as follows; retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), photoreceptor complex damage, vascular bed damage, ganglion cell or optic nerve damage, cystoid macular edema, crystalline retinopathy, uveitis, changes in color vision and electroretinography (ERG), and various other effects. These drugs show their toxic effects by causing vascular damage or causing vasospasm with various effects.
