Abstract

Purpose of the research work. To identify the basic medical and social characteristics of the convicts held in the high security institutions, including their morbidity. Novelty: There was conducted a five-year case study of the convicts’ morbidity. Methodology of the research work There are presented the results of a five-year case study of the convicted and their morbidity. There has been used the method of peer review based on the convicts’ survey and data from medical records. Results. The data on basic health and social criteria have been received as well as on some types of disease common in individual groups. There are presented the suggestions for optimization of medical aid provided to convicts in the penal correction system institutions. Practical implication: These results can be implemented in the practical work of health officials and health care workers in penitentiary facilities.
