Introduction: During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore, clinical attachments for medical and nursing students were temporarily suspended and replaced with online learning. It is unclear how the lack of clinical exposure and the switch to online learning has affected them. This study aims to explore their perceptions of online learning and their preparedness to COVID-19 as clinical postings resumed. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate and graduate medical and nursing students from three local universities, using an online self-administered survey evaluating the following: (1) demographics; (2) attitudes towards online learning; (3) anxieties; (4) coping strategies; (5) perceived pandemic preparedness; and (6) knowledge about COVID-19. Results: A total of 316 responses were analysed. 81% agreed with the transition to online learning, most citing the need to finish academic requirements and the perceived safety of studying at home. More nursing students than medical students (75.2% vs 67.5% p=0.019) perceived they had received sufficient infection control training. Both groups had good knowledge and coping mechanisms towards COVID-19. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that medical and nursing students were generally receptive to this unprecedented shift to online learning. They appear pandemic ready and can be trained to play an active part in future outbreaks.

  • Mohd Zulfadli Rozali + 2 more

The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to a global lockdown, and universities have shifted to online learning. Despite the various efforts made by universities for students' online learning during the pandemic, not much has been identified about how students perceived online learning and how it affected their psychological well-being (PWB). This study examines the differences between male and female students' perceptions of online learning during the pandemic. A quantitative research design was used to measure the effect of PWB among students on online learning during the pandemic. The population consistedof first-year students in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) from Bachelor of Technology programs; hence, 127 respondents were sampled. A validated researcher-developed questionnaire was used to test the reliability of the study. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Spearman Rho correlation and Mann-Whitney U were used to test the hypotheses at a p-value less than 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed a PWB effect on students' perceptions of online learning. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference between genders affected by PWB in students' perceptions of online learning during the pandemic. Therefore, it is recommended to focus on one of the six elements of PWB regarding the perception of online learning among students.

Background and Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has altered the landscape of human life all over the world, including the conventional face-to-face teaching method, which has been replaced with online classes. The drastic changes without a holistic planning makes online teaching prone to various shortcomings. Thus, this article aims to address two research objectives. The first objective is to determine Malay Literature students ‘online learning experiences, and the second objective is to analyse the demographic factors influencing students’ perceptions of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methodology: This descriptive study employed a survey questionnaire to gather data. A sample consisting of 67 undergraduate students majoring in Malay Literature at a public university were recruited as respondents in the present study using a simple random sampling method. After following 14 weeks of online lessons, a questionnaire form was distributed to the students. The research instrument is a questionnaire, which has been adapted and modified from a study by Baczek et al. (2020). The questionnaire form consists of two sections. Section A contains eight items related to respondents’ demographic background. Section B contains items related to students’ perceptions of online learning, in which six items are related to the benefits of online learning, five items are based on the disadvantages of online learning, and four items on students’ general perceptions of online learning. The responses from the questionnaire were analysed using Statistical Package for the Sosial Science 22.0 for descriptive analysis.

Findings: The study found that online learning is perceived by students as being more disadvantageous than beneficial. Respondents concluded that the advantage of online learning is that they could learn from their own homes according to the suitability of their time. They also acknowledged that they could access learning resources better in online classes. One of the factors influencing students’ perceptions of online learning is the speed of Internet connection.

Contributions: The study highlights the need for lecturers to be adequately prepared and to consider factors such as quality of Internet access, home location, students’ readiness and constraints faced by students.

Keywords: COVID-19, learning, literature, online learning, quality education.

As the COVID-19 pandemic pushed universities worldwide to shift from traditional to online learning, there is a need to capture the students' perception of online learning using an appropriate tool. Hence, this study explores the appropriateness of the online learning assessment survey (OLAS) model for assessing the students' perception of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. It included the undergraduate students (N = 2523) of the selected four health science colleges at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) during 2020–2021. The data was obtained through OLAS using “Google Docs” from 728 students. The structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis revealed that each item showed a significant positive relationship with its respective variable of OLAS. The proposed OLAS model with five variables showed a good fit to assess the students' perception of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those variables enable the university policy planners to evaluate the students' perception of online learning during the pandemic, thereby supporting them in framing appropriate strategies to improve the quality and success of online learning. Further research is necessary to include all students of various programs offered at Saudi universities to generalize the outcomes. OLAS can include a global item assessing overall students' satisfaction with online learning, and the influence of OLAS variables on the overall students' satisfaction can be evaluated in future studies.

This mixed-methods study explores the effects of adaptive leadership on faculty engagement in online learning in higher education. The higher education environment is rapidly changing due to students seeking more flexible and online learning opportunities. This change which was already developing in response to the 2025 enrollment cliff (when the number of high-school graduates in the United States will drop significantly) and has only been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of adaptive leadership on faculty engagement in online education at institutions of higher education. This study was conducted through a pragmatic paradigm with a constructivist lens . The conceptual framework for this research study was built upon a thorough review of the literature, examining three research streams: (a) faculty perception of online learning, (b) change management, and (b) adaptive leadership. Seventy-seven faculty from four colleges at a large university in the northeast completed a survey and then eight faculty participated in follow-up interviews. The quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS to look at descriptive and inferential statistics. The qualitative data were analyzed using NVivo for open and axial coding. The research revealed five results: (a) the climate of a school/college effects perception of and participation in online learning; (b) faculty want to be acknowledged and rewarded for participation in online learning; (c) Institutions of Higher Education looking to move online need to secure faculty buy-in and provide faculty support (d) faculty's perception of online learning has shifted over time, and exposure to online and remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic shifted perceptions in a positive way; and (e) faculty's perception of online learning is not affected by participation in professional development or by working with an instructional designer; however, instructional design support was highly valued. Based on these results, five recommendations were made for institutions wishing to move into online learning: (a) faculty should decide to opt-in to online teaching; (b) protect faculty time; (c) recognize faculty contributions (d) provide support to faculty; (e) invest in instructional designers.

This research reveals students' readiness and perceptions of online learning post the COVID-19 pandemic. Online learning has gained significant popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic. This learning method offers flexibility and convenience for students, however now that learning in higher education institutions has returned to normal, how students' perceptions of online learning are fully debated in this study. Three hundred and eight students from local universities in Indonesia took part in a quantitative study to explore the satisfaction and effectiveness of online learning. This research is a cross sectional study completed by making an association between various parameters using an independent t-test and one-way ANOVA. The findings report that most of the students are dissatisfied with online learning and only the facts find that it is effective for their learning. It is based on the facts that both genders are equally ready for online learning after the post Covid-19 pandemic. It is proved by Welch test indicating that there was no significant difference in readiness for online teaching between gender (t= 0.089, p = 0.935). There is no significant difference in gender in their perception on the effectiveness of online learning. A negative t-value indicates (t = -0.45, p = 0.653). And there is no significant difference among the students from different faculties in their readiness for online learning based on one-way ANOVA test showing that p<0.05 level on the effectiveness of online learning post-covid [F(5, 127) = 3.714, p =0.004] and the readiness for online learning was not statistically different between faculties [F(5, 127) = 0.827, p =0.533]. Refer to online learning. The study concluded that a fully online mode may not be suitable for all types of learners. Instructors and institutions need to recognize these issues and provide appropriate supports and solutions to improve the effectiveness of online education.
