Abstract

The system of mass communication in modern society has led to intensive development of media technologies, requiring advanced users of information culture and mastery of specific competencies. This is due to the necessity of daily searching, selection, storage, processing and analysis of data using a variety of methods and strategies to gain access to them in accordance with the format used and the source of information (oral, printed, visual, digital or multimedia). The article provides an overview of the main directions of development of media in an increasingly grows up the role of information in the sphere of functioning and development of the modern society. Analyzes and compares the foreign experience in the development of the system of formation of culture media, digital and computer literacy of the participants of the modern communication process. The examples of core competencies, which are defined as a set of knowledge and skills necessary for personal fulfillment, active citizenship and social formation of and placement in a society based on knowledge. Different approaches to the problem of development and improvement of digital competence, computer literacy, media literacy, computer skills, Internet skills, and others. The necessity of formation of media competence, the key concept in the educational environment, allowing to form the main vectors of the development of media literacy among pupils and students.
