Abstract
The long line of books published by Slovenian diplomats (such asAndrej Capuder and Milan Jazbec) and politicians (includingJanez Drnovšek, Viktor Žakelj and Janez Janša) over the last two decades also includes Dimitrij Rupel’s 2011 work Slovenija na svetovnem prizorišču (Slovenia on the International Stage). Although at first sight the works of the aforementioned authors appear to be depictions of past events with a great degree of subjectivity, and could therefore be considered literary memoirs, theCooperative Online Bibliographic System and Services (COBISS) and theSlovenian Current Research Information System (SICRIS) databases tend to label them as specialist or scientific monographs. The present paper analyses and discusses the core characteristics of Rupel’sSlovenija na svetovnem prizoriščuand suggests possible solutions to the dilemma of whether it is best to classify it within the literary or semi-literary genre.
