Abstract

In this investigation, a study is conducted on; mechanical, tribological and microstructure properties of Aluminium Matrix Composites (AMCs), reinforcement material used was silicon carbide (SiC) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) particles. The matrix material used is Aluminium alloy LM24, with varying the reinforcement of rGO starting from 0 to 0.15 wt. % in steps of 0.05 wt. % and constant quantity of 15 wt. % of Silicon Carbide. Stir casting method was used for fabrication of the composites. To know the particle distribution and composition of the prepared composites, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used respectively. Mechanical properties such as impact strength, tensile strength and hardness were studied extensively for comparing with matrix material. A significant improvement was observed in Impact strength, hardness and tensile properties while increasing the weight percentage of rGO particles. Tribological property, wear resistance was also increased with the addition of reduced graphene oxide (rGO).
