Abstract
The mechanical stability of power transformer is one of the most important factors to maintain the safety of transformer. However, during the operation life, spacers between disks will degrade by thermal, oxidation and other factors. The degraded spacers show a lower elastic modulus which can make the winding clamping loose and influence winding mechanical stability. To investigate the mechanical property of spacer in degradation, the Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) is used to analyze the relationship among storage modulus, mechanical loss angle and degradation under variable temperature. Meanwhile, DP value is also measured to make a comparison. The results show that spacers can be viewed as ideal elastic material under small strain and its elastic modulus decrease during degradation which may lead to insufficient clamping pressure and shift resonance frequency of winding.
