Abstract

In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of cubic boron nitride (cBN)-diamond composites under high-temperature and high-pressure (HTHP) sintering. The effects of diamond content and particle size on phase composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties were investigated. A homogenous microstructure was obtained. Diamond as the second phase positively affected the mechanical properties of cBN composites. With the addition of 1 μm diamond, the highest bending strength and abrasive ratio of cBN composites sintered with 8 wt% diamond were 791 MPa and 2.56, respectively. The hardness of composites sintered with 12 wt% diamond reached up to 60.12 GPa.
