Abstract

The mechanical properties of PA-6 modified with resol type phenolformaldehyde oligomers thermally cured in the polymer matrix are studied. The elastic modulus E and the tensile strengths σ of the PA-6 thermally modified with oligomers are directly related to the increase in the content of modifying agent in the polymer. The elastic modulus of the PA-6-phenolformaldehyde oligomer system in a medium of 100% humidity greatly exceeds the corresponding value of the original PA-6 and PA-6 modified with tanning agent type oxyaromatic compounds. The results obtained can be obtained by the formation of a system of strong hydrogen bonds (with a high degree of cooperative intermolecular interaction) between the three-dimensional network of the phenolformaldehyde oligomers and the PA-6 in the amorphous regions of the polymer.
