Abstract
Recent researches are witnessing that nano fillers are significantly contributing the enhancement of strength of solid materials. In the current investigation carbon fabric reinforced epoxy matrix added with halloysite nanotubes (HNT) composites were fabricated using hand layup technique followed by hot pressing. The carbon fabric reinforced epoxy matrix composites (C-E) were fabricated with the addition of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 0.75 wt% halloysite nanotubes (HNT) and tested for its mechanical properties: tensile strength and modulus, flexural strength and modulus using ASTM testing standards. The results revealed that tensile strength and modulus were increased up to 82% and 26.8% respectively and flexural strength and modulus were increased up to 29% and 28.5% respectively as compared to the unfilled carbon fabric-epoxy composites. Failure mechanisms were analysed using SEM photographs.
