Abstract

Aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs) are widely used in advanced engineering applications due to their outstanding characteristics, such as high strength to weight ratio, good wear resistance and toughness. Al7075 metal matrix composites have been extensively adopted by different manufacturing industries such as automotive, aerospace, and marine. The selection of matrix and reinforcing elements and fabrication techniques are crucial for achieving the desirable characteristics of AMMCs. This paper attempts to review available scientific articles to evaluate the impact of weight percentage of single and hybrid reinforcements on the Al7075 matrix and to study their effect on the mechanical and tribological behavior of AMMCs. The commonly used reinforcements in the Al7075 matrix as carbides, nitrides, oxides, borides and other reinforcements like fly ash (FA), red mud (RM), marble dust etc. are considered to drive the mechanical and tribological properties of AMMCs. Furthermore, the effect of various process parameters is investigated to check the tribological performance of Al7075 composites. We have also presented the attributes of stir casting method for processing of AMMCs.
