Abstract

Abstract The motion and pinning of magnetic flux in superconducting indium and indium-thallium have been studied by observing the damping of the oscillations of a torsional pendulum. The forces acting on moving and pinned flux were deduced, and their variation with field and temperature observed. Viscous forces, frictional forces, and non-linear friction were observed and analysed.
