AbstractThe tensile strength of thin aqueous films plays an important role in foaming systems. This study experimentally measured the film tension by applying a new method to three soap solutions with different glycerol contents. It was found that the film tension was independent of bubble size. The results indicated that the molecular interaction within the thin liquid film has a negative contribution to the film tension of ca. −3 mN m−1. The glycerol content has an insignificant influence on the film tension. This new method can provide unique insights into foam systems in food, detergency, and chemical processes.
