Abstract
Fibromyalgia (FM) patients complain of widespread pain, tenderness, and distress. Although tender points (TP) are part of the 1990 ACR Criteria for FM, they represent better predictors of distress than tenderness in this pain population. Since tenderness not only represents a risk factor for chronic pain, but correlates with clinical and experimental pain intensity, other methods than TP are needed to characterize FM. 32 NC and 30 FM patients received 5sec heat-stimuli of 45 and 470C to 16 body areas corresponding to TP-locations.
