Abstract

In this paper, the plasma density in the lateral discharge of the tip gap at atmospheric pressure was measured by Mach-Zehnder interferometry. Based on the offset of the fringe picture, the maximum electron density of the plasma was calculated to be about 1.76 × 1018cm−3. At the same time, the spatial distribution of plasma electron density and the change of the highest electron density with the applied voltage across the tip were obtained.
