Abstract

A vane vorticity meter to measure streamwise vorticity was designed, constructed and calibrated. To obtain low bearing friction influence on the rotational speed of the meter, a relatively large vane span was chosen. A new method of data fitting is presented which gives an accurate description of vortex strength and diffuseness even when the characteristic raduis of the vortex is nearly equal to or smaller than the vane span.
