Abstract

A method is described for measurement of excitation functions for ( A, A′e) reactions. The combination of a pulsed beam and a large solid angle electron detector permits the rapid measurement of reactions which result in E0 transitions. As an example, the 72Ge(p, p'e) reaction was measured from Ep=3.00−4.34 MeV. The half-life of the 691 keV 0 + state in 72Ge was measured to be (439±4) ns.
