Abstract

The article studies approache to the concept of ‘intersemiotics’ in contemporary literary studies. The author provides its definition and characteristic, defines peculiar features of intersemiotics among other related concepts. The purpose of the study is to identify and analyze means and functions of the category of intersemiotics in the novel Girl with a Pearl Earring by T. Chevalier. The analysis of the novel has shown that the key means for implementing the category of intersemiotics are as follows: ekphrasis, the interaction of different types of iconic signs which creates additional meanings, and lingua‐artistic technique of writing. All of these means are firstly used as one of the author’s tools for embodying the profound meaning of the work, secondly, they contribute to the creation of visual images in the reader’s mind, which, in turn, become the basis for recreating
