Abstract

This paper analyses and simulates the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method for a wind energy system. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) is used to generate power from wind energy. The MPPT method used in this work is Perturbation & Observation method which is also called as Hill Climb Searching method. Meaning of perturbation is disturbance. Disturbance parameter in wind energy system is wind speed (v). Due to this variable wind speed output power is also variable throughout the day. By using this perturbed power input to the P & O algorithm it generates the PWM signal to vary the duty cycle of buck converter according to requirement of maximum power. A prototype for the complete system is developed in MATLAB Simulink tool and power output with and without MPPT results are observed.
