Abstract

The technical innovation in wireless application increases the demand for wireless band day by day. It burdens the unlicensed spectrum band. On other hand the licensed spectrum bands are underutilized. To manage the usage of spectrum band efficiently, the Federal Communications Commission organization introduces the new paradigm as Cognitive Radio. Cognitive Radio is a smart radio technology which possess the ability to sense the electromagnetic environment and adjust their radio parameters. Spectrum sensing, spectrum management, spectrum sharing and spectrum mobility these are the four functions performed by Cognitive Radio. Spectrum Sensing performs the function of finding vacant spectrum band by sensing the radio frequency spectrum band to make them available to secondary user for transmission of signal. There are many spectrum sensing algorithms available for sensing of spectrum band. The proposed work focuses on spectrum sensing algorithm for better spectrum utilization and higher secondary users throughput. In proposed work using the Bayesian Detector the system achieves higher spectrum utilization and provides higher secondary user throughput without prior information of licensed user just by making use of prior statistics of primary user and signaling information like symbol rate and modulation order. Performance analysis of Bayesian detector, suboptimal detector and Bayesian detector for selective reporting mechanism for cooperative spectrum sensing in terms of detection probability and false alarm probability are estimated.
