Abstract

ABSTRACT This is a study of research into a mature student matriculation course conducted in the University of Sheffield by the Division of Continuing Education. The authors describe the course, provide an abstract of a statistical research undertaken on the years 1976–83 and analyse the findings. Numbers of students, the socio-economic profile, ratio of withdrawal, drop-out, final degree results and the problems encountered by mature students are discussed and compared to other research reports.
