Abstract

The high-pressure polymerization of ethylene in tubular reactors is a process of considerable economic significance. A low density polyethylene (LDPE) reactor is designed to produce a variety of polymers each of which has distinct properties and end-use applications. One of the most important problems encountered in operating an LDPE reactor is to select the optimum operating conditions that maximize the reactor productivity at the desired product quality. To accomplish optimal operation of an LDPE tubular reactor or designing, a new one, it is necessary to know the sensitivity of system responses relative to the variations of the controlling process variables.
