Abstract
Art education is typically seen solely as an opportunity to explore creative thinking. So, art education is not often been seen as a partner in the more general education of young children. This chapter describes a Draw-a-Monster activity which was revised to adhere to design principles for a Model-Eliciting Activity and implemented in two art classrooms. Ways to connect this activity back to the classroom to maximize its potential to impact young children’s learning of mathematics, language arts, and engineering and to prepare children for more complex modeling situations are discussed.
