Abstract

Latin-american women inclusion in social and political movements during 20th century was mainly founded in their mothers' condition, their claims were based in their families protection and care. In this article we analyze the Madres de Plaza de Mayo movement, which was meant to reach justice for daughters and sons disappeared during military dictatorship in Argentina, and we conceive it as a social sphere for women's citizenship construction under maternal feminism theoretical basis. At the same time, discourses and accounts from women who participated in that movement are considered for analyzing collective and individual identity construction based on their participation in public and political sphere as well as the re-signifi cation of their mothers' condition since their movement enrollment.

PRESENTACIÓN

A lo largo de las décadas, los movimientos feministas y de mujeres han luchado por la participación de éstas en la esfera pública y su reconocimiento como seres políticos, racionales, capaces y merecedoras de tomar y ejercer decisiones y derechos fundamentales a la par que los hombres, en todos los grupos y estratos sociales. En los inicios del feminismo, a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, la maternidad y los valores esenciales que, supuestamente, la condición de madre otorga a las mujeres, fueron tomados como estandartes para la consecución de los objetivos que los grupos feministas se planteaban como preponderantes en aquellos contextos. La reflexión se enmarca en la discusión teórica del feminismo maternalista y la construcción de la identidad colectiva e individual de las mujeres a partir de su participación en la esfera pública y política fundamentada en su condición de madres
