Sri Lanka Journal of Medicine is the official journal of the Kandy Society of Medicine. It is a peer-reviewed journal currently published biannually. Original articles, reviews, brief reports, case reports, points of view, and letters to the editor, in all fields of medical science and practice are accepted for publication.The Sri Lanka Journal of Medicine is now indexed in DOAJ

Introduction

Maternal and child health and nutrition (MCHN) indicators reflect a country’s ability to meet the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SGDs)(1). Maternal and Child Health and Nutritional Policies in Sri Lanka in the development of health systems during the past few decades [7,8,9]. Identification of LMICs that are positive outliers in their performance and studying the pathways to success should be continuous learning process in promoting health equity. Such countries and populations are underrepresented in the formation of global health agenda as the decision making is conducted by authorities representing high income countries and the focus is stipulated on the least developed countries, yet struggling for empowerment in health
