Abstract

The current scenario faces potable water scarcity all over the world and in that perspective; the solar distillation system plays an important role. In accordance with that system should be economic, self-sustainable and environment-friendly. To carry these words, this paper represents the system behavior based on energy payback time, life cycle conversion efficiency, CO2, SO2, NO emissions, carbon mitigations, etc. This work shows a performance analysis of passive evacuated tubular collector solar still based on energy matrices and enviro-economic parameters. Single slope solar still with ETC shows considerable embodied energy (1138.52 kWh) and yields up to 3.8 l/m2/day with 77.2 tons of carbon mitigation for 30 years of life. The carbon credit earned by the system was $771.23. Also, the system has lower energy payback time and better life cycle conversion efficiency i.e. 0.68 yrs and 0.34 respectively.
