Abstract Luminosity profiles are measured for five globular clusters in the Magellanic Clouds from surface photometry and star counts. The profiles for both young and old clusters are well represented by King's (1966) models. Cluster masses are then derived from their tidal radii: these masses lie between 10,000 and 200,000 solar masses. The mass-to-light ratios are 0.2 to 0.9 for old clusters, and about 0.06 for young clusters. These results show that the clusters in the Magellanic clouds have similar dynamical structure to the globular clusters in the Galaxy, even though some of them are very much younger (younger even than their relaxation times).
