Abstract

Lanthanide element population patterns in deep sea basalts vary with the degree of silica saturation of the rocks. In the olivine tholeiite series more undersaturated examples show preferential enrichment of the lighter lanthanides. This relationship is not displayed by the high alumina olivine tholeiite.
