Abstract

Mass customer metering and billing is a daily task but also an ongoing quandary within the Water Services Corporation. Meter selection is dependent upon several factors. This has been perhaps made more complex by the introduction of smart metering several years ago. Meter ageing, together with the contribution of water quality, water pressure, and the effect of consumer’s flow profile on meter performance will also be discussed. This will all be done while keeping in mind the use of Automated Meter Reading in Malta to obtain consumers’ readings remotely and by ensuring that billing is done in a timely and accurate manner for the WSC.
