Abstract

This article discusses the influence of Marx and the Marxist tradition on contemporary Brazilian social work. Marx’s method of political economy is a central element in understanding the professional ethical-political project that has been fostered since the late 1960s, known in Brazil as the Reconceptualization Movement. Finally, the article points to the challenges of this perspective for the current situation.
